Kayak tour along the Basque coast

Back

The Cantabrian Sea offers unmatched adventures, and kayaking is the best way to experience it up close. The Urdaibai estuary, declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, combines marshes, beaches, and riverside forests, creating an ecosystem rich in migratory birds and fish. Paddling through its waters allows you to spot herons, cormorants, and even seals on occasion.

San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, famous for its hermitage perched atop a rock, is another ideal destination. The kayak route provides access to cliffs and caves unreachable from land, offering views of the coast’s natural architecture and the strong waves that shape the rocks. Instructors teach basic paddling techniques, safety, and how to read currents, making the experience safe for beginners and exciting for experts.

Tip: The activity is best enjoyed in summer, when currents are gentler. Bring a swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, and water shoes.
